March 12, 2003 Preliminary Proposal
In the summer of 2002, the Community Task Force for Promontory Point in conjunction with the Hyde Park Historical Society commissioned architects Frank Heitzman and Wayne Tjaden to prepare a proposal for preserving the limestone revetments at The Point, in conjunction with improving universal access. This work was funded by contributions from the concerned citizens and business of Hyde Park, matched with a generous grant from the Richard H. Driehaus Foundation. List of donors here.
Heitzman and Tjaden proceeded on the basis of the study already done by coastal engineer Cyril Galvin, published elsewhere on this site.
The image files here are presented full size, so you can see the details of how the limestone blocks are to be integrated into a renewed but still historic structure that also provides better access for everyone, regardless of ability. These images will take some time to download over a slow connection such as a modem, but we felt it was worthwhile to present them to you unaltered.
